What is commercial food waste?
According to the EPA definition, ‘commercial food waste’ refers to only the solid component of commercial food waste that is biodegradable and generated at the food processing, food retail and post-consumer stages.
-
What solid commercial food wastes does WCT accept and process?
Fruit and vegetable material; cooked or uncooked food; meat, poultry and bones; eggs and eggshells; fish and other seafood; bread, rice, pasta, cereals; paper towel and tissues; tea leaves, tea bags and coffee grounds; dairy products including cheese, yoghurt and cream.
-
Can WCT accept liquid commercial food wastes?
WCT is not licensed to accept any liquid commercial food waste (such as liquid fruit waste, for example) or any other liquid waste including trade waste or industrial wastewater.
-
Who provides a commercial food waste collection service in Shepparton and surrounding areas?
Most waste collection contractors in Shepparton offer a food waste collection service. Foott Waste & Recycling is a Shepparton-based business that provides bin hire and supply of compostable bags and regular solid commercial food waste collections in Shepparton and Mooroopna.
-
Are WCT composts and mulches free from weeds and plant propagules?
Yes, they are. Pasteurisation is the treatment phase of composting during which the number of plant and animal pathogens (disease-causing organisms) and plant pests and propagules (viable plant materials or seeds) are significantly reduced. The entire mass of organic waste inside our tunnels is exposed to temperatures higher than 65oC for more than 3 consecutive days to guarantee the elimination of plant propagules. For each batch of feedstock composted at the facility, we meet approved methods by recording temperature and moisture content and maintaining and retaining these records as proof that pasteurisation was achieved.
-
Do WCT composts and mulches meet the Australian standard?
Yes, they do. WCT composts and mulches have been specifically developed for use in the urban amenity, intensive agriculture and rehabilitation market sectors. WCT products meet the general requirements of Australian Standard AS4454-2012: Composts, soil conditioners and mulches.
